Dear all,

One of the goals of the FSAtom project is to enhance code
interoperability
by the development of common file formats for data representation and
interchange, and XML has emerged as a very flexible framework for this
kind of
effort. A variety of tools for the handling of XML documents exist in
several
programming languages, but Fortran has been an unfortunate exception,
until now.

I have developed a native Fortran90 XML parser, and I am making it
freely
available. Fortran codes can now easily handle XML documents, without
the
need for extra layers of software or intermediate files.

You can find more details about the parser, including a full
tutorial User Guide, on

http://lcdx00.wm.lc.ehu.es/ag/xml/

The parser is already being used as a tool in the area of
pseudopotential
file format standardization. Prototype code for this "real-world"
application
is available at

http://lcdx00.wm.lc.ehu.es/ag/xml/pseudo/

Some of the ideas on that page are directly usable in wider contexts. I
encourage those of you with Fortran codes to try the parser and
contribute
suggestions.

	Best regards,

	Alberto
