[Octopus-devel] Octopus wiki spammers

We continue to have trouble with spammers creating accounts on the wiki and
writing ad links on random pages. Hunting them down, banning them, and
reverting their changes, as Miguel has been doing, is fairly
labor-intensive. Another solution would be to make prospective users answer
a question before they can create an account. This is supported in a
MediaWiki module: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:QuestyCaptcha
I added a similar functionality with Drupal to www.berkeleygw.org for our
soon-to-be released code BerkeleyGW, and it has been working well at
keeping out the spammers who were trying to register as users there. We
have the question "What does the G stand for in 'GW'? (only give the first
word)." Something appropriate for Octopus could be concocted that any
genuine user should know.
