Hi Giacomo,
I wonder what library you recompiled locally  using pgi, if not the blas 
lapack. I only had to link gsl and fftw (both c libraries I guess). 
Futhermore I didn't have any problems linking gcc created c object (at 
least not at the linking phase), anyway I compiled  octopus again using
pgcc (that bytheway doesn't like the c++ way to put comments // and I had 
to substitute with /* */)  and nothing changed.

I also linked the acml instead of blas/lapack, but again this was not the 
problem.

Maybe something that has changed between 1.4 and 1.99  makes the 
latter not working.
